Unemployment

Austan Goolsbee's Opinion

Posted on Monday, September 20, 2010

White House economist Austan Goolsbee, who was elevated to chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) last week, acknowledged on “Fox News Sunday” that the country may face a protracted job shortage. “I don't think the unemployment rate will be coming down significantly at any time in the near future,” he said (Politico, Sept. 12). Goolsbee, who succeeds Dr. Christina Romer as head of the CEA, was previously confirmed by the U.S. Senate and will not need to be reconfirmed.
